A 23-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a Gros Islet resident earlier this year.

Police say Rjae Actie, 23, of Monier, Gros Islet, was formally charged on Monday, March 2, 2026, with causing the death by dangerous driving of Leslie Clarke. Actie was escorted to the First District Court for bail proceedings and was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 cash or suitable surety, along with additional court-imposed conditions.

The charge stems from a vehicular collision that occurred on Sunday, January 25, 2026, around 4:35 p.m. along the Choc Highway in Castries. Officers attached to the Department of Road Safety responded to the scene following reports of a serious accident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a vehicle traveling northbound collided with another vehicle traveling southbound along the Choc Highway.

Drivers and passengers from both vehicles sustained injuries and were transported to the Owen King European Union (OKEU) Hospital and Tapion Hospital for medical treatment.

Police later received confirmation from a medical practitioner that Leslie Clarke of Bonne Terre, Gros Islet, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s Department of Road Safety is reminding motorists to exercise caution while driving and to comply with traffic laws governing vehicle operation and road usage.
