Organisers Anticipate Strong Turnout for Independence Legacy Calypso Show

Must Read

With days remaining before the Independence Legacy Calypso Show, organisers say interest is high for this year’s staging, which forms part of Saint Lucia’s national Independence celebrations.

The event, regarded as a regular feature on the Independence activities calendar, is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, at the Rodney Bay Pavilion, beginning at 8:00 p.m. It is expected to attract patrons from across the island for an evening centred on calypso and soca music.

This year’s Independence edition will feature a combination of regional and local performers. Caribbean soca artiste Destra Garcia is set to headline the show, alongside Saint Lucian groovy artistes Teddyson John, King Arthur, and Alpha.

Several established and emerging Saint Lucian performers are also expected to take the stage, including Ashanti, Educator, Dezral, Mantius, Blackeye, Short Pants, and others, reflecting what organisers describe as a broad cross-section of the island’s musical landscape.

Lead organiser Teddy Francis said preparations for the 2026 edition are progressing steadily, noting strong early interest from patrons.

He described the Legacy show as an event that has grown into a recognised part of Independence observances, providing a platform for both veteran performers and newer artistes, while highlighting the evolution of Saint Lucia’s music.

Francis noted that beyond entertainment, the event is intended to recognise the contribution of local artistes and preserve elements of the country’s musical heritage as part of the wider Independence celebrations.

Organisers say final preparations are continuing as the event approaches, with expectations that the show will once again draw a strong turnout as part of the island’s Independence activities.
