The Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) has extended warm congratulations to Senator the Honourable Dr. Shanda Harracksingh following her appointment to the Senate and as Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, describing the milestone as a proud moment for the local medical fraternity.

In a statement, the Association lauded Dr. Harracksingh’s elevation to national leadership, noting that her appointment reflects both professional excellence and a commitment to public service. The SLMDA expressed confidence in her ability to navigate the responsibilities of her new portfolio and pledged its “full and unconditional support” as she undertakes the role. “A win for one of us is a win for all of us,” the

Association stated, underscoring the broader significance of Dr. Harracksingh’s appointment for the medical and dental community and for women in leadership across Saint Lucia.

The SLMDA also took the opportunity to recognize the retirement of esteemed dermatologist Dr. Marie Grandison-Didier, whose decades-long contribution to healthcare has left an indelible mark on the country’s medical landscape.

Dr. Grandison-Didier, widely respected for her work in dermatology as well as HIV/AIDS advocacy and management, was praised for her exceptional knowledge, compassion, and unwavering dedication to patient care. Beyond her clinical work, she has been credited as a physician, teacher, mentor, and trusted confidante to countless colleagues and members of the public.

In recognition of her lifetime of service, Dr. Grandison-Didier received the SLMDA’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020, an honour the Association described as a fitting tribute to her enduring impact on healthcare in Saint Lucia.

As she embarks on retirement, the SLMDA conveyed best wishes to Dr. Grandison-Didier, noting that her guidance and presence will be “sorely missed,” but that her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of medical professionals.

The dual announcement, the Association said, reflects both continuity and transition within Saint Lucia’s medical community, celebrating new leadership while honouring a distinguished career of service.
