The Saint Lucia Fire Service is urging heightened vigilance this holiday season following two major structural fires within a 24 hour period, each resulting in the complete destruction of family homes in Soufriere and Dennery.
In the early hours of Thursday, December 11, 2025, at approximately 1:02 am, firefighters responded to a structural fire at Smith Street, Soufriere. Upon arrival, officers encountered a concrete structure fully engulfed in flames.
During the operation, firefighters carried out a high risk rescue of three adult females who were located in the backyard of the burning building, where a neighbouring home was also threatened by the spreading fire. Additionally, four adult males suffering from smoke inhalation were transported to a medical facility for further treatment.
The blaze was brought under control and fully extinguished. The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
The previous evening, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at approximately 7:36 pm, fire officers were dispatched to a reported structure fire at Belmont, Dennery. Responding crews found a two storey wooden and concrete residence completely engulfed.
The homeowner and her family had already evacuated and were found safely outside the residence. There were no occupants inside at the time of the incident. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and investigators are currently working to determine its origin and cause.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service continues to remind the public to exercise caution during the holiday period, ensure electrical systems are safe, and report any fire hazards immediately.
