The United Workers Party (UWP) has confirmed that Allen Chastanet will remain at the helm of the organisation after its National Council the party’s highest decision-making body moved unanimously to reject his resignation during a pivotal meeting on Monday, December 8, 2025.
The meeting, convened to address mounting political developments following the party’s defeat at the polls earlier this month, focused heavily on Chastanet’s formal offer to step down as political leader. After extensive discussion, council members voted against accepting the resignation at this time, opting instead to maintain continuity in leadership until the party’s upcoming convention.
In a statement issued Monday evening, the UWP noted that the decision reflected a unified stance across its executive ranks.
“Allen Chastanet will therefore continue to serve as party leader until the upcoming convention,” the release stated, adding that the party remains committed to strengthening its internal structures, rebuilding public trust, and advancing its long-term goals.
Public Relations Officer Leonard “Spider” Montoute thanked supporters, members, and the wider public for their ongoing confidence during a period of transition and introspection for the organisation.
The UWP’s national convention, where leadership positions are expected to be formally addressed, is scheduled for early 2026.
