United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for Castries North, Stephen Fevriere, expressed strong confidence in both his party’s national prospects and his own chances in the constituency as he headed in to cast his ballot on Monday morning. Speaking with Saint Lucia Daily Post, Fevriere said the turnout and mood on the ground reflect “a clear desire for change,” following what he described as widespread public dissatisfaction with the performance of the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) government.
Fevriere said Saint Lucians have had four and a half years to assess the administration and the constituency’s current representative, Stephenson King. “I think Saint Lucians have had an opportunity to analyze both the performance of the Labour Party and their candidate… I’m confident that they will return the United Workers Party to power,” he stated. He added that residents across the island are “demanding more” in areas such as healthcare, infrastructure, water supply, governance, and public safety—issues he believes the SLP has failed to adequately address.
While acknowledging that every government will have moments of acceptable performance, Fevriere said voters are responding to what he believes is the administration’s overall failure to meet reasonable expectations. “This government has underperformed… and certainly Stephenson King, as part of the Labour Party government, has not met the expectations of the people of Castries North,” he said.
Fevriere has also become a familiar presence on TikTok during the campaign. He explained that his use of the platform is deliberate and driven by a desire to connect with younger voters. “There’s this perception that politicians are unidimensional. I think showing a softer side of yourself is important,” he said. He described TikTok as both an engagement tool and a conversation starter that has helped him create meaningful dialogue with youth on policy and issues affecting their future. “It has really helped me to open dialogue on substantive issues.”
As for today’s turnout, Fevriere said the momentum is encouraging. He reported a steady flow of UWP supporters in Castries North, noting strong enthusiasm and determination among voters. “Our voters are coming out… there is a high level of interest in expressing themselves through the democratic process,” he said. “Yellow is the code in Castries North, and so far we’re confident we will take it home.”
Polls close at 6 p.m. as Saint Lucians decide not only the next government, but whether Castries North will see a shift in political leadership.
