Emergency responders were called to the scene of a fatal shooting in Bexon on Friday evening, adding to a troubling rise in violent incidents in the area over the past three weeks.
According to officials, the Saint Lucia Fire Service received a call for assistance at approximately 7:50 p.m. When personnel arrived on the scene, they discovered 32-year-old Omar Jn Baptiste lying face down on the road with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. He was later pronounced dead.
This latest killing marks the third homicide in the Bexon community in recent weeks, deepening concerns among residents who say the area has been rattled by sustained gun violence.
The homicide follows a string of recent shooting incidents in Marc, Bexon. Approximately two weeks ago, a drive-by shooting left one man nursing multiple gunshot wounds. One week later, another individual was injured in a broad daylight shooting in the Marc/Bexon, which police believe may have been a retaliatory attack. Earlier this week, residents also reported a late-night gunfire exchange that resulted in no injuries but left several homes damaged.
Community members say the escalating gunplay has created an atmosphere of fear, especially with three homicides occurring within such a short span.
Police have launched an investigation into the killing of Omar Jn Baptiste, but no arrests have yet been announced. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine whether the recent incidents are connected.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
