Prime Minister Pierre Announces December 1, 2025 General Election Date

Must Read

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has announced that Saint Lucians will head to the polls on Monday, December 1, 2025, to elect a new government. The announcement came during a national address on Sunday evening, marking what is expected to be one of the most closely watched general elections in recent years.

Prime Minister Pierre said he has advised the Governor General to dissolve Parliament on Monday, November 10, 2025, clearing the way for the official campaign period to begin. Nomination Day has been set for Friday, November 21, 2025.

“I am confident that we have delivered on what we promised,” the Prime Minister stated. “As we continue the normal business of government and governance, I have advised the Governor General to dissolve Parliament tomorrow, November 10. General elections will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025. Nomination Day will be Friday, November 21, 2025. I thank you.”

The announcement had been widely anticipated, following a series of political activity and constituency rallies across the island in recent weeks. The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), which came to office in July 2021 with a commanding mandate, is seeking a second term.

The election is expected to be fought on key issues including:

Economic stability and cost of living

Crime and public safety

Youth employment and education opportunities

Health and social support programs

Infrastructure and national development priorities

The United Workers Party (UWP) has been critical of the government’s performance, arguing that the administration has failed to adequately manage national security and rising consumer prices. The SLP maintains that it has steered the country responsibly through global economic challenges while restoring stability and protecting the most vulnerable.

With Parliament’s dissolution, both major political parties are now expected to officially launch their full campaign machinery. Independent and new political movements may also emerge as the election draws closer.

The Electoral Department is expected to release detailed voting guidelines and logistics in the coming days.

Saint Lucia now enters a period of heightened political activity, public debate, and national decision-making.
