Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) DeFreitas provided a crucial update on the ongoing investigation into the tragic death of Officer Tyson of the RSLPF’s K9 Unit. The incident has left the Saint Lucian public reeling, prompting an in-depth probe to uncover the truth behind the officer’s untimely demise.
ACP DeFreitas, speaking at a press conference this morning, underscored the seriousness with which the RSLPF is treating this investigation.
“The death of Officer Tyson remains a very serious investigation,” he asserted. To ensure a comprehensive exploration of all possible causes, a specialized team has been convened, tasked specifically with determining the root cause of Tyson’s death.
As part of the investigation, a necropsy, an animal autopsy, was performed, from which samples have been meticulously collected for forensic analysis.
“These samples are with our forensic lab as we speak,” ACP DeFreitas disclosed, affirming the RSLPF’s commitment to transparency and accountability in its procedures.
While the initial findings from the veterinary pathologist offer some insight, ACP DeFreitas emphasized the necessity of awaiting the results of the toxicology tests. “We are relying on a more informed outcome from these tests to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding Tyson’s death,” he explained, indicating the high level of scrutiny applied to every aspect of the investigation.
On a note of honor and remembrance, ACP Mashama Sealy confirmed that Commissioner Garde has authorized an official funeral for Officer Tyson, acknowledging his service and sacrifice as a distinguished member of the RSLPF.
