The first day of the two-day Carnival Parade has kicked off without major incidents, thanks to increased police visibility and well-coordinated security operations by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF).
According to Superintendent Charlotte Thomas, who heads the Traffic Department, police operations on Carnival Monday have been smooth, with no serious disruptions reported in relation to event management.
“We have had no major incidents in relation to the management of the events. Traffic-wise, we’ve had some congestion, but that has been taken care of,” said Superintendent Thomas in an on-the-ground interview. “We are ensuring that the bands return to Mega J as smoothly and safely as possible.”
Carnival-goers have also taken note of the elevated police presence across the capital. Officers were seen patrolling in organized groups, dressed sharply and stationed at strategic points throughout the route.
“We do have increased numbers on the ground,” Superintendent Thomas confirmed. “We have our special patrol groups, our SSU officers, all stations and departments. We even have officers from the Southern Division who have come to reinforce the police presence to ensure that it is a safe carnival.”
Police have expressed satisfaction with the public’s conduct and level of cooperation throughout the festivities so far.
“So far, it’s all good,” Superintendent Thomas said.
As Carnival Tuesday approaches, law enforcement officials say they will continue to maintain a strong and proactive presence to ensure public safety, effective traffic control, and an overall secure environment for revelers and spectators alike.
