Chairperson of the Carnival Planning and Management Committee (CPMC), Tamara Gibson, has reaffirmed efforts to strike a balance between structured organization and vibrant public involvement in Lucian Carnival 2025.
When asked about opportunities for wider public participation—especially during J’ouvert and Carnival Tuesday—Gibson revealed that discussions are underway to potentially introduce a public music truck for general revelers. While most activities are now hosted by registered carnival bands, this move could broaden access and engagement for non-affiliated participants.
Addressing public feedback about the lack of visual uniformity on Tuesday’s parade, Gibson noted that the CPMC is promoting color-coded bodywear to create a more cohesive aesthetic. Additionally, the committee is organizing a pre-parade segment that will showcase Saint Lucian traditional art forms and live performances by local creatives—enhancing the spectacle and cultural richness of the parade.
Speaking on Vaval Central, Gibson said these initiatives reflect the CPMC’s guiding pillars of inclusivity and cultural preservation.
She also highlighted a notable increase in regional participation, particularly from French territories, with over 500 visitors expected to join various bands this year.
As the carnival season gains momentum, Gibson underscored the importance of personal responsibility and mutual respect, adding:
> “Lucian Carnival is everyone’s festival—from the professional in Castries to the grandmother in Pavee. We want it to be inclusive, spectacular, and safe. And we want every Lucian to be proud of what we’re building.”
The full Lucian Carnival 2025 calendar continues throughout July, with major national events including the National Carnival Queen Show, Panorama, Soca Monarch, and Parade of the Bands. The CPMC urges all Saint Lucians to participate, support, and celebrate the island’s rich cultural legacy.
