Another St Lucian Finalizes a Major Professional Sports Career Move

Must Read

(Saint Lucia Daily Post – May 27, 2025) — Another Saint Lucian footballer is on the cusp of professional success overseas. This time, it’s 21-year-old forward Dahmanii Berthier. Fresh off an MVP season playing for Anse La Raye, a tier 2 team in the Saint Lucia Semi Pro Football League, Berthier is in advanced discussions for a move to Cavalier FC in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) — with national standout Vino Barclett playing a key role in making it happen.

The news first broke during an interview on Vybe Radio’s morning sports show, The Banter, where Barclett was a guest of host Elijah Williams on Tuesday.

“I told my coach to sign the player from Anse La Raye — Dahmanii,” Barclett revealed in a candid interview. “We are in contact with him. It’s going to happen.”

Barclett, a Saint Lucian goalkeeper who earned Man of the Match honors in the JPL final and was crowned Best Goalkeeper at the Caribbean Club Championship, credited the Semi Pro Football League’s live broadcasts for giving players like Berthier exposure to regional clubs.

For his part, Berthier confirmed the interest in an exclusive conversation with Saint Lucia Daily Post, sharing that he was initially set to join Cavalier in January this year. “I had to join in January, but I ended up signing the contract the day of the deadline. So it didn’t process in time,” he explained. “They told me they’d like to bring me up in the summer.”

He added that talks with the Jamaican club had covered accommodations and logistics but ultimately didn’t materialize earlier this year. “It didn’t work out, but I’ll probably come back to the table and finalize things for July.”

Berthier emphasized that the opportunity came through visibility provided by the Semi Pro live stream: “It feels good, and I would like to say thank you to the Semi Pro for just broadcasting it because I think that’s where the opportunity came from… I’ve been playing, but it was just never recorded.”

A product of both local and international football systems, Berthier has previously suited up for Saint Lucia’s National Team at the U14 to U20 levels, and was part of the 1987 All Star line-up. He has also played for Jamaica College, and B1 FC. Berthier also won the Emmanuel Bellas Best Player of season 1(MVP), at the inaugural Semi Pro Football awards in January this year.

Though the move to Jamaica is not finalized, Berthier indicated it’s close. “I might have to re-sign the contract, and then I’ll go up in the summer. The coach originally offered two years, but I asked for six months because of my job. He agreed.”

But Jamaica may not be the only destination. The young striker revealed he’s also eyeing an opportunity in Germany. “I might be going to Germany also to do a trial… I have a scout there, and a friend who plays in Germany keeps telling me I should come up.”

That European trial remains in flux, as the club initially seeking an attacker has reportedly filled the position. Still, Berthier remains optimistic: “I still think I will be going to try out.”

With local and regional clubs vying for his signature, Berthier’s loyalty to his roots remains intact. “A few clubs locally were also willing to pick me, but I just try to stay playing for Anse La Raye ‘cause that’s my first team.”

As the Semi Pro’s second season approaches, fans are left wondering: will Anse La Raye have their MVP for another campaign — or will Berthier be lighting up the JPL or even the German leagues next?

Wherever he lands, one thing is certain — Saint Lucia is producing elite football talent, and Dahmanii Berthier is among them.
