Resident British Commissioner (RBC) Amy Quantrill Inspires Young Minds at Local School During Reading Month.

RBC was honoured to be invited to Bexon Primary School and Patricia D. James Secondary School on May 21st and 22nd, to participate in the schools’ Reading Month celebrations. Resident British Commissioner Amy Quantrill engaged with students sharing her insights and experiences in diplomacy.

During her visits, Amy spoke about her journey to becoming a diplomat, focusing on the theme of conflict resolution and the vital role of diplomacy in maintaining peace between nations.

At Bexon Primary, she read a story on the adventures of Paddington Bear through London, a book she also shares with her own son.

At Patricia D. James Secondary School, she captivated the students by reading from her childhood favourite, “The Hobbit,” a beloved book that was read to her by her parents.

“I was thrilled to connect with the students and share my experiences,” said Quantrill. “Reading has played a significant role in my life, and I hoped to inspire these young individuals to embrace literature as a means of understanding the world around them.”

As an avid reader, Amy emphasized the importance of reading to the students, highlighting how it can open doors to new ideas and perspectives and help to foster mutual understanding. Her interactive session motivated students to develop a love for reading and appreciate the value of storytelling in their own lives.

The event concluded with a lively discussion where students asked questions about the themes presented in “The Hobbit” and the importance of diplomacy in today’s world.

The RBC is committed to supporting educational initiatives and empowering the next generation through community involvement and outreach programs.
