The community of Barre Denis was rocked by violence on Wednesday afternoon after a deadly shooting claimed the lives of three individuals and left another hospitalized.
Emergency responders from the Castries and Babonneau Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found four individuals with apparent gunshot wounds. Three were unresponsive and displayed no signs of life. The fourth, who sustained an injury to the shoulder, was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
The incident marks one of the most serious outbreaks of violence in the community in recent times and contributes to a growing wave of gun-related crime across the island. With this latest incident, Saint Lucia’s homicide tally for the year now stands at 22.
Police have launched a full investigation into the shooting and will release an official statement on Thursday.
