The Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) is mourning the loss of Gregory Glace MBE, whose vision and contributions were pivotal in shaping the island’s tourism landscape. A prominent businessman, Glace was instrumental in the growth of Saint Lucia’s tourism and hospitality sector.
In 1977, Glace founded Glace Supermarket & Wholesale, marking the beginning of his significant influence in the business community. Four years later, in 1981, he achieved a remarkable milestone by opening the 20-unit Islander Holiday Apartments Hotel in Rodney Bay. This accomplishment was particularly notable, given the limited involvement of Saint Lucians in hotel ownership within the tourism industry at the time.
Glace’s leadership extended to his tenure as President of the SLHTA from 1981 to 1982, where he played a crucial role in advancing the tourism sector. His innovative spirit and dedication to enhancing the industry have left a lasting impact on Saint Lucia’s tourism landscape.
SLHTA President Erwin Louisy honored Glace’s legacy by stating, “Mr. Glace is the definition of a trailblazer and someone we should all be immensely proud of. Known for his pioneering spirit and dedication to enhancing the tourism landscape, he returned home to Saint Lucia after years abroad with a bold vision…”
