The President of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation, Leslie Collymore has praised the upcoming One Guyana 3×3 Quest, scheduled for April 5-6, as a groundbreaking and significant event for 3×3 basketball in the region.
“I warmly congratulate the Guyana Basketball Federation for organizing this historic tournament,” Collymore remarked.
Set to take place at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the event will feature 20 teams from 16 different countries, marking the first-ever 3×3 Quest in the Caribbean and the first in the Americas for 2025.
Three local teams from Guyana will compete against elite players from countries including Ecuador, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, the USA, the Cayman Islands, Grenada, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, and Suriname.
The tournament champions will earn a coveted spot in the FIBA 3×3 World Tour, set for August in Edmonton, Canada.
Collymore emphasized, “This event is the first of three 3×3 Quests we have planned for the Caribbean in 2025, underscoring our commitment to advancing the sport on a global scale.”
He also highlighted the growing basketball calendar in the region, stating, “With the upcoming 5×5 FIBA qualification tournaments later this year, 2025 promises to be a milestone year for Caribbean basketball.”
Collymore extended best wishes to all participating teams, both regional and international.
“I expect this competition to be a vibrant showcase of talent, sportsmanship, and the unifying power of basketball. We commend Guyana for spearheading this initiative and look forward to witnessing continued growth and success in our regional basketball programs,” he concluded.
