The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has announced a series of new initiatives aimed at deepening ties with local communities, enhancing community policing efforts, and improving public safety across the island.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Albert Charlery explained that the programs are designed to maximize public participation in crime prevention.
“The push at this time is to maximise the participation of the public in assisting in crime-fighting and keeping our communities safe. Two areas being focused on include the conversations which have started with the retired police officers and the hosting of town hall meetings throughout the jurisdiction,” Charlery said.
“As an organization, we continue to provide the opportunity so that members of the public can interact with police officers in a different setting.”
The RSLPF also intends to collaborate with other government agencies to develop community leaders and educate residents on legislation and proper procedures for organizing safe and successful activities.
“We hope also to collaborate with other government agencies, assist in developing community leaders, educating residents on the various pieces of legislation and a proper procedure to follow in planning, organizing, and executing activities successfully,” Charlery added.
One of the first initiatives under this community-focused push is the Soufriere Police Community Day, organized in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Officers will be deployed directly into the community to engage with residents, with the inaugural event scheduled for Barron’s Drive.
Presentations will cover areas such as community policing, conflict management, fire safety prevention, and event planning. Additionally, staff from the Soufriere Hospital will support the event by hosting a health fair for attendees.
