Over EC$3 Million in Drugs Seized at Port Castries During Major Joint Operation

Must Read

A significant narcotics bust at Port Castries has resulted in the seizure of drugs valued at more than EC$3 million, following a coordinated operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

The operation, carried out on Thursday, March 26, 2026, brought together officers from the Customs and Excise Department and the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit (GNFU), with support from other units within the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force. Authorities confirmed that the breakthrough came during the inspection of a shipment, when officers identified irregularities that prompted a more detailed search.

That search led to the discovery of approximately 149.69 kilograms of compressed cannabis and 10.144 kilograms of cannabis resin. The compressed cannabis carries an estimated street value of EC$3,742,250, while the cannabis resin is valued at EC$405,760.

In addition to the drugs, officers also uncovered a substantial sum of cash concealed within the shipment. Authorities reported that USD $110,000 was found hidden, raising further suspicions surrounding the shipment’s origin and intended destination.

One individual has since been taken into police custody and is assisting investigators. Officials say inquiries are ongoing as law enforcement continues to pursue leads connected to the seizure.

The operation marks one of the more substantial drug interdictions at Port Castries in recent times, underscoring intensified efforts by authorities to disrupt narcotics trafficking through the island’s main port of entry.
