The Riviere Mitant community is in mourning following the tragic death of Linus Delice, who was allegedly stabbed by his nephew during a verbal confrontation on the night of December 2nd, 2025. Delice sustained a single stab wound to the chest and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries.
On the night of December 10th, residents of Riviere Mitant gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor Delice’s contribution to the community.
A resident reflected on his impact, saying, “Tonight, my fellow residents of the community of Riviere Mitant, we are doing a vigil in remembrance of one of our own, Delice, who lost his life recently in tragic circumstances. It is definitely a very solemn and sad moment for us, me especially, and I’m sure many other young men from here.”
The resident highlighted Delice’s role as a guiding figure for the youth.
“In my age group, we remember Linus as someone who kept us grounded. You know, one of the senior guys who would tell us, guys, stay on the block, let’s go on the field, let’s go and roll a ball. And he gave us this advice. He was somebody who a lot of us could see, especially those in my age group who kept us on the right path. All of us are doing well because of his influence. His brothers, all of us, we never went astray. We could say we are great citizens and he’s one of those who contributed to that,” the resident said.
The vigil also underscored the broader loss felt by the community.
“It’s a great loss because now, when you look at violence and most of our youth, you find communities missing that type of big brother figure.
They’re missing this person who could say, ‘Hey guys, now you need to stop this.’ Linus personified the era gone by where you listened to your elders. You listened to your elders and you had respect for them,” the resident added.
The tragic death of Linus Delice has left a profound impact on Riviere Mitant, with residents vowing to carry forward his legacy of mentorship and guidance for the younger generation.
