A ten-year-old boy is in stable condition and his mother remains critical following a shooting incident in Richfond, Dennery, on Thursday evening. The circumstances surrounding the attack are still coming in, and police have launched an active investigation.
Residents reported hearing several gunshots shortly after 9:30 pm.
Richfond and surrounding communities in Dennery North and South were earlier this year identified as hot spots for gun-related violence, with several homicides linked to gang-related conflict. Though there had been a noticeable reduction in gun incidents in recent months, Thursday’s shooting has triggered renewed concern and unease among residents.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the mother or child was the intended target.
Gang violence has been attributed to the majority of homicides on the island, particularly in the Dennery region.
