50% Done, 100% Determined!

Must Read

On August 21, 2025, CIE Ltd. broke ground on the transformative Corinth–Monchy road project—an engineering undertaking that is literally paving the way for smoother, safer, and faster commutes in Saint Lucia’s north. Two months in, Project Manager Savvy Gajadhar reports that the site is already 50% complete, with the heavy lifting—earthworks, road widening, and retaining walls—well underway.

From cutting back dangerous corners to stabilizing slopes with towering retaining walls, the project has been about laying a solid foundation for the future. “We’ve widened the road to comfortably carry two lanes, reinforced the embankments, and improved drainage along the stretch,” Gajadhar explained. “Even the sharpest bends have now been straightened out to make the route safer and more efficient.”

But beyond the gravel and asphalt, this project is breaking new ground in coordination and collaboration. Traditionally, newly paved roads have been torn up for water or utility works shortly after completion. This time, CIE and WASCO are working in tandem, with crews literally “digging in” together—ensuring that water mains, service connections, and roadworks move in lockstep from the ground up.

The next phase will shift gears from brute earthworks to finesse and precision. Crews will focus on constructing concrete drains, shaping verges, fine-grading the base course, and preparing the road for its final asphalt overlay. It’s the detail work—the finishing strokes—that turn a project from progress into pride.

Once completed, this arterial corridor will stand not just as a new road, but as a milestone of modern engineering, teamwork, and forward planning—a roadway built to last and designed to unite communities.
