The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force wishes to provide an update on the suspected drowning incident that occurred at Marisule Beach, Gros Islet, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

Earlier today, Thursday, October 9, 2025, about 11:45 a.m., the body of twenty (20) year-old Ajanie Hippolyte of Marisule, Gros Islet, was recovered in the waters off the coast of Cap Estate, Gros Islet.

This follows extensive search operations conducted by the Marine Unit, which resumed early Thursday morning after initial efforts to locate the victim proved unsuccessful on the evening of the incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Hippolyte was among a group of four individuals kayaking off Marisule Beach when their kayaks began taking on water and overturned. The group attempted to swim back to shore; however, the victim experienced difficulties staying afloat, and rescue efforts by friends were unsuccessful.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.
