Tragedy struck on Tuesday afternoon at Marisule Beach when a kayaking expedition ended in heartbreak for a group of four young men.
Reports indicate that the group encountered difficulties while out at sea, resulting in two individuals managing to make it safely back to shore, while two others were not as fortunate. While initial reports suggested that the body of one of the victims, identified as Ajani Hippolyte, had been found, police have since confirmed that the search remains ongoing for his missing body.
Hippolyte, a promising young footballer, was a member of the La Clery District League and was well-known for his talent, discipline, and dedication to the sport. His untimely passing has sent shockwaves through the local football community, with teammates, officials, and supporters mourning the loss of a bright and spirited athlete.
This marks the second time this year that the Saint Lucia Semi Professional Football League community has been struck by tragedy. In July, Sherman Augustin of the Gros Islet District League was fatally stabbed during carnival festivities, a heartbreaking loss that also shook the football fraternity.
Emergency responders and local authorities continue efforts to locate the missing men, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding Tuesday’s tragic incident remain ongoing.
