Ex-UWP Minister Edmund Estephane Breaks Silence, Endorses Brother’s Political Bid

Must Read

Former United Workers Party (UWP) Cabinet Minister Edmund Estephane has broken his silence following his surprise appearance on a Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) platform in support of his brother, John Paul “Timothy” Estephane, the SLP’s endorsed candidate for Babonneau.

Despite sharing a stage with the governing party, Edmund made it clear that his loyalty lies first and foremost with his brother, not with partisan politics.

“To date, the time has come for me to retain that support. With pride, with humility, and with confidence, I now stand beside my brother as he steps forward to contest this general election,” he declared.

Speaking with characteristic conviction, the former Minister praised his brother’s dedication and long-standing service to the community.

“I know better than anyone his deep love for people… his sense of justice and his unshakable dedication to service. For years, he has quietly worked in the background. Timothy, this man was a teacher. He could not come on my platform. He could not do it the way I am able to do it. But he is capable and deeply committed to carrying forward the mission of service.”

Edmund, who previously served as Parliamentary Representative for Dennery South, framed his endorsement as an act of family loyalty and continuity of service.

“I ask you, my fellow citizens, to give him the same trust and opportunity that you once gave to me. I was not an easy rep… in the whole of Saint Lucia, I’ve been the best rep there is. I sacrificed everything that I had. Together, Timothy, let us ensure that the spirit of service continues. Not for the glory of man, but for the progress and prosperity of all our people.”

The former MP also addressed criticism from some within the UWP who view his appearance on an SLP stage as betrayal.

“Today, some UWPs who are hurting want to kill me. To date, the time has come for me to retain that support… With pride, with humility, and with confidence, I now stand beside my brother.”

Estephane’s move has stirred debate within both parties and has raised questions about loyalty and legacy.
