CASTRIES, SAINT LUCIA – JULY 20, 2025 — In the wake of a surge in gun violence and reprisal killings across the island, the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has issued a strong statement of condemnation, pledging full support to Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre and law enforcement in the fight against crime.
In a press release dated July 20, the SLP extended heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of recent victims, declaring that senseless violence has no place in a society that values peace, justice, and the rule of law.
“We support all lawful efforts being undertaken by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force to restore calm and safety,” the statement read. “We reaffirm our commitment to the national fight against crime through prevention, enforcement, and community engagement.”
The Labour Party also took aim at what it described as “shameful attempts” by members of the opposition to politicize the recent tragedies. The release warned that political gamesmanship during national mourning is not only reckless but dishonourable, urging leaders across the aisle to respond to crime with unity, maturity, and responsibility.
“We therefore call on every citizen to reject fear, reject division, and reject those who seek to politicize our pain,” the statement continued, appealing to the public to remain calm and to support law enforcement efforts to apprehend perpetrators and prevent further bloodshed.
Reiterating its long-standing commitment to national development, the SLP pledged to continue working toward safer communities, better support for police officers, and the creation of more opportunities for Saint Lucia’s youth.
“Together, we will overcome this dark moment with strength, solidarity, and a shared resolve to protect our beloved country,” the statement concluded.
The release comes amid heightened public anxiety following a series of violent incidents that have rocked communities and renewed calls for stronger crime-fighting measures. Authorities have yet to confirm whether recent acts of violence are linked, but investigations are ongoing.
The SLP’s statement has added to the national conversation, underscoring the urgent need for a united front in addressing the escalating threat of gun violence in Saint Lucia.
