Chair of the Carnival Planning and Management Committee (CPMC), Tamara Gibson, has outlined the guiding principles shaping Lucian Carnival 2025, identifying four strategic pillars that define this year’s approach to Saint Lucia’s largest cultural festival.
According to Gibson, these four pillars serve as a compass for planning and decision-making, helping ensure that the festival remains inclusive, culturally rooted, and enjoyable for all.
The first pillar, Inclusivity, is centered on making the festival accessible to every Saint Lucian. “We are very intentional in ensuring that every Saint Lucian knows the festival belongs to them,” said Gibson. “No matter your age, location, or mobility, this is your festival and you have a role to play.”
The second pillar, Sustainability, carries a dual focus. It emphasizes not only environmental responsibility but also the long-term viability of the carnival. Gibson explained that this includes encouraging eco-conscious practices while also working to maintain the vibrancy and relevance of the festival for future generations.
The third pillar, Cultural Preservation, seeks to ensure that the island’s rich traditions remain central to the carnival experience. “We want to make sure that elements like calypso, steel pan, and traditional mas remain a core part of the celebrations,” Gibson noted.
The final pillar is Responsible Enjoyment, a message of safety and accountability. While the festival encourages celebration, Gibson stressed the importance of personal responsibility. “We want everyone to enjoy themselves but also to be safe and mindful of their actions so that we can have a safe and incident-free carnival,” she said.
