The sounds of soca and the rhythmic energy of Saint Lucia’s carnival culture filled the air this past week as the National Schools Tour made its journey across the island, igniting excitement and cultural pride among the nation’s youth.

Thursday marked the beginning of this cultural parade as the tour kicked off at Gros Islet Primary School, followed by Monchy Primary. The schools resonated with joyous tunes and performances to the delight of students and teachers alike.

“Nothing but excitement,” reflected Tamara Gibson, Chairperson of the Carnival Planning and Management Committee, on the reaction of the young audience.

Continuing its mission on Friday, the tour brought the celebration to Patricia D. James Primary and concluded with an exhilarating showcase at Corinth Secondary School. Students were treated to electrifying performances from renowned Saint Lucian artists like J’urgen, Bronxx Mata, carnival ambassadors Nerdy and Ricky T. The presence of the island’s Carnival queen contestants further amplified the celebration, showcasing cultural pride and artistic enthusiasm.

Gibson emphasized the significance of this initiative, noting, “The purpose is to fulfill our pillars of inclusion and cultural preservation. The Schools Tour is not just about entertainment; it’s an investment in our future. By bringing the spirit of carnival into schools, we aim to inspire the next generation to embrace and perpetuate our rich cultural heritage. The students’ excitement and energy tell us that our culture is in safe hands.”

Through lively music, captivating dance, and engaging cultural education, the National Schools Tour endeavors to foster a deep sense of national pride and unleash the artistic potential of Saint Lucia’s youth, ensuring the enduring legacy of the carnival.

As the tour weaves its cultural tapestry across schools, it is set to culminate on June 10th.
