A 59-year-old woman is recovering after sustaining a head injury in a stabbing incident early Wednesday morning at the Massy Stores supermarket in Cul De Sac.
According to the Saint Lucia Fire and Ambulance Service, a distress call reporting a physical assault was received at approximately 7:49 a.m. Emergency responders from Fire Service Headquarters were promptly dispatched, arriving on scene at 7:58 a.m.
Upon arrival, first responders found the victim, identified as Rosemary Francois of Cul De Sac, lying in a prone position. A nurse who happened to be on the scene had already provided initial care, controlling the bleeding with gauze and a bandage. The nurse reported that Francois suffered a two-centimeter laceration to the back of her head.
Emergency personnel conducted a comprehensive head-to-toe assessment and found no additional injuries. Francois, who was fully alert and conscious, was able to walk unaided into the ambulance. She was transported in stable condition to the Owen King EU Hospital and handed over to medical staff at the triage area for further treatment.
At this time, authorities have not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the assault. Police investigations are expected to follow.
