Saint Lucia Police Launch Elite Crime-Fighting Unit to Crush Gangs, Drug Trade, and Illegal Firearms

Must Read

In a decisive move to combat rising crime and dismantle organized networks, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has restructured its former Drug Squad into the Gang, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit (GNFU). This newly formed unit will take a more aggressive stance against gang violence, drug trafficking, and illegal firearm possession, recognizing their role in fueling homicides, community fear, and youth recruitment into crime.

With divisions covering both the North and South of the island, the GNFU will execute sustained operations, intelligence-led investigations, and inter-agency collaboration to disrupt criminal enterprises. Officers will focus on seizing illegal firearms, intercepting drug shipments, and dismantling networks facilitating organized crime. The RSLPF is also strengthening ties with Customs & Excise, the Marine Police, the Financial Intelligence Authority, and regional and international law enforcement agencies to expand the fight against transnational crime.

Beyond enforcement, the GNFU is prioritizing crime prevention through education and community engagement, launching school awareness campaigns, outreach programs, and public meetings to encourage cooperation and vigilance. By proactively addressing these challenges, the RSLPF aims to restore public safety, reduce violent crime, and hold offenders accountable, marking a new era in law enforcement for Saint Lucia.
