Castries, Saint Lucia – The United Workers Party (UWP) has set forth a decisive policy agenda aimed at reshaping the nation’s future, following a powerful display of unity and purpose at its recently held 43rd Annual Convention. Party members unanimously adopted 13 motions, reflecting the UWP’s commitment to democracy, accountability, and people-centered governance.

The resolutions, which cover a broad range of social, economic, and infrastructural reforms, highlight the party’s vision for a more inclusive and prosperous Saint Lucia. Key proposals include the introduction of a National Health Insurance plan for all citizens, a comprehensive affordable housing program, and the elimination of property tax for seniors—measures designed to ease financial burdens and enhance social welfare.
Economic revitalization remains at the forefront of the UWP’s agenda, with motions geared toward revamping the agricultural sector, correcting unlawful discounts under the Citizenship by Investment Program (CIP) to ensure Saint Lucians benefit first, and introducing unemployment benefits through the National Insurance Corporation (NIC). The party also aims to modernize Castries while supporting local vendors and construct state-of-the-art bus terminals in Castries and Vieux Fort to improve public transportation.
Among the proposed reforms, the UWP is also advocating for fair and transparent transfers of taxi permits, extending Saint Lucian passport validity to 10 years, and protecting public access to the island’s beaches. Additionally, education remains a priority, with the proposed restoration of the eBooks program in schools. The party also plans to launch a National Youth Volunteer Program to foster civic engagement among young people.
As the party prepares to unveil more policies in the coming weeks, UWP officials remain steadfast in their pledge to advance a governance model driven by the people’s needs. The convention’s outcome signals a clear direction for the UWP, setting the stage for a political landscape centered on progressive, people-focused leadership.
