Lisa Jawahir, the Communications Director and prospective Castries South East candidate for the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), has responded to remarks made about her by United Workers Party (UWP) Deputy Leader Guy Joseph.
During a UWP public meeting in Gros Islet on March 2nd, Joseph criticized the SLP’s political strategy, particularly in Castries South East. “The SLP has a PRO, not the PRO of the government, and the PRO of the Labour Party is everywhere doing house-to-house in Castries South-East and telling them how badly the SLP candidate is performing in Castries South-East,” he said.
Jawahir addressed Joseph’s comments during the SLP’s March 9th public meeting in Anse La Raye, urging him to focus on other matters.
“I have a message for somebody that just likes to call my name! This person says that the Labor Party is paying a PRO to talk bad about the people. But I want to ask you a question comrades: Have you ever heard Guy Joseph speak the truth? So Guy Joseph, I have a message for you: Drink water and mind your business. The Saint Lucia Labour Party has no division,” she declared to loud applause.
She encouraged SLP supporters to remain focused on the party’s achievements during its nearly four years in office. Joseph, who previously held the Castries South East seat for three consecutive terms, was defeated by Joachim Henry in the 2021 general elections. Jawahir asserted that the Labour Party has made significant strides in the constituency since then.
“We are moving forward together for more progress. And it is our responsibility to continue to push the mandates for you, the people. Do not be distracted with what the followers have to say. Do not listen to the propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation of people who have lost their seats,” she urged.
Jawahir has formally announced her intention to contest the Castries South East seat under the SLP banner, promising to bring fresh energy and a new vision to the political landscape.
