Dennery North MP Slams UWP’s Election Slate

Must Read

Dennery North MP Shawn Edward has launched a blistering critique of the United Workers Party (UWP), branding its newly announced slate of candidates for the next general election as the weakest in Saint Lucia’s history.

Speaking at the Saint Lucia Labour Party’s (SLP) National Public Meeting on Sunday, Edward declared, “This is the weakest slate of candidates ever assembled ahead of any election in the history of this country.”

The UWP recently unveiled its candidates, including Marcella Johnson for Gros Islet, Laura Jn Pierre- Noel for Laborie, Rosh Clarke for Castries Central, Leanna “Lady Lee” Johannes for Vieux Fort South, Bradley Marcelle Fulgence for Dennery North, and Elisha Norbert for Micoud North.

Edward, a three-term MP, took direct aim at his challenger, Bradley Fulgence, warning him ahead of the electoral contest. “I want to put him on notice! They say he is a good guy, they say he is a brilliant young man, but let me say this to you tonight, my brothers and sisters—any young man, any young woman who joins forces with Allen Chastanet, you are an enemy of progress in this country.”

He accused former Prime Minister Chastanet of halting funding for the La Ressource Health Center and other projects, questioning the alignment of young candidates with the UWP’s leadership.

“You cannot profess to be a young man or young woman who wants to see Saint Lucia move forward and you joining forces with Allen Chastanet… you are worse than Allen Chastanet,” Edward told the gathering at the Anse La Raye Waterfront.
